Tap showreels
Creating a dance showreel is always a bit of a challenge, but it’s especially tricky for tap. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to know what to include and how to capture clear, quality sound, and I've seen many dancers face the same challenges.
So, I’ve put together a simple formula for a definitive tap dance showreel that’s made up of three clips. First, there’s a theatrical combination, perfect for musical theatre, which can also be performed in heels. The second is still theatrical but focuses on rhythm, with more syncopation and contemporary vocabulary. Both combos are filmed as trios so you can show your synchronicity and precision alongside other equally strong dancers. You’ll rotate positions during the shoot, ensuring that you’ll have at least three takes for both combos where you’re front and centre.
The third clip is a short, 30-second a cappella solo, and I’ll help guide you through creating something unique that really plays to your strengths.
This all takes place over three consecutive Sundays. On week one, we learn both combos. Week two is for cleaning, rehearsing in trios, and building your solo. And on the final week, we film everything.
By the end, your showreel will cover all the bases the industry is looking for and you’ll be able to use it for years to come.
An alternative or additional option is to have your own choreography captured with multiple camera angles and recorded sound.
